Get involved in Wakeboarding

Former Olympic badminton star Gail Emms showed us how thrilling it is to get involved in a new sport.

As part of Get Involved week, we headed to the water to take a closer look at a sport making a splash across the UK.

The sport is accessible to anybody from any background, so look out for Wakeboarding Sportivate programmes which are running at sites from the south coast to the Scottish boarder.

The initiative, funded in part by Sports England, offers participants the chance to take part in six subsidised sessions that explain how to wakeboard.

The programme finishes with a personal challenge or competition - at which point you're hopefully hooked on the sport.

And as you can see from the video at the top of the page, Emms had a great time taking part in a challenge that was outside her comfort zone.

She told Sky Sports News: "I think it's really important to get involved in something.

"If there's something you really want to do and you've always thought 'one day I want to do that, one day I should try this' then today should be the day that you get up, go and have a look at the local club, go and look on the internet and do some research.

"Book your first session today because if you don't do it today then you'll always be someone saying 'if only I'd done that.'

"I challenge you today to start now. Get involved because you'll love anything and you'll be so proud of yourself that you did it."
