Brad Friedel tells The Footballers' Football Show he has good relationship with Hugo Lloris

Brad Friedel admits it's not "normal" to have so many top-quality goalkeepers at Tottenham, but insists he has a good relationship with his rivals.

The American was the first choice number one at White Hart Lane last season, but has lost his place to France international Hugo Lloris, who was signed during the summer transfer window.

And with Brazil international Heurelho Gomes and Premier League winner Carlo Cudicini also on the books at Tottenham, Friedel says there is a healthy professional rivalry between the club's unusually high quota of stoppers.

"My relationship with Lloris is very good," he said.

"It's never the player that decides who plays, it's never a player that decides who's getting scouted and recruited to come into a club.

"Obviously it's not a normal situation having four goalkeepers of our ability at one club at the same time, so there were certain situations amongst us with the staff and things of that nature."

"Carlo Cudicini and Heurelho Gomes are also there, who are outstanding goalkeepers, and myself, and when Hugo came in we welcomed him as a team-mate, not an enemy.

"Obviously it's not a normal situation having four goalkeepers of our ability at one club at the same time, so there were certain situations amongst us with the staff and things of that nature.

"But all that just gets communicated out. There's never been one hint of a problem between Hugo and any of the other goalkeepers.

"How good can he be in the Premier League? He can be outstanding in the Premier League."

Competition

Friedel's last appearance for Spurs came against Panathinaikos in the Europa League and he says the club will be going all out to win the competition.

They were paired with Lloris' former club Lyon when the draw was made for the first knock-out round on Thursday and Friedel says the players will relish the clash.

"We're one of the teams that would like to think we can win the competition," he said.

"I'm sure Lyon are also one of the teams that would like to think they could win the competition. I know there's a bit of media involved in this one because Hugo Lloris has just signed with us and it's his old club.

"It'll be a difficult draw, but one we'll relish and I think both teams can win it. Both teams can lose it.

"It'll be one that everyone's eyes are on."
