Shaun Lunt is dreaming of Grand Final glory with Leeds, after turning his season around with a loan move to the Rhinos.

"Leeds have encouraged me to play how I want to play and they've really pushed me forward."

Quotes of the week

Lunt marked his mid-season move from Huddersfield with a debut try in April's 34-18 win over Catalan and since then the hooker has gone from strength to strength.

"It's been really strange this season - I didn't even think I'd be at Leeds at the start of the year," he told Boots 'n' All.

"When I asked to go out on loan I didn't imagine a club such as Leeds would come in to get me on loan. That was a big shock. They were in a bit of a slump but Leeds are Leeds and you can never write them off.

"Things started going great, we had a terrific run and it's been brilliant. You couldn't have written this script."

Lunt's performance in Perpignan helped the Rhinos overcome the Dragons last week in their play-off and he says his upturn in form is due to him enjoying life with Leeds.

"I'm back enjoying my rugby, and that's the main thing," he said. "When you see people not playing so well and people say 'oh they're not as good as the year before,' well I think that's all down to enjoyment. Leeds have encouraged me to play how I want to play and they've really pushed me forward."

Cracking job

Leeds Coach Brian McDermott is equally pleased with Lunt's performances for the Rhinos.

"He's done a cracking job," he said. "He's been very good for us and coming off the bench for us he's really had an impact. He sniffs a try out, he can put other people through for tries and he's a solid defender."

Looking ahead to the semi-final at Wigan, where the Rhinos will be without Danny McGuire due to his one game ban, McDermott said: "We're going to have to get on with it and the 17 players who take to the field will have to fill Danny's boots.

"Seventeen hungry young men, trying to get through to a Grand Final: that's powerful. They're all there hunting for the same thing, tackling anything that moves and running until their blood dries out. That's what we've got here and that's why I want to get to the Grand Final."
