Jim Troughton says Warwickshire plan to come out firing in the second half of the county cricket season.

The Midlands outfit won the County Championship in 2012 and reached the final of the CB40, but they have struggled to replicate that form this term, winning just two matches in all competitions.

The Bears sit second bottom of the Championship and are at the foot of their pool in the newly-named YB40 competition, too, but captain Troughton is confident his charges can push on once left-arm quick Keith Barker is at full fitness.

"We have played solid cricket in both forms for a few years now and had huge expectations this season after winning the Championship, but it has been a difficult summer with England call-ups, injuries and other teams gunning for us," Troughton told Cricket AM.

"But we are working on getting back to basics and cracking on for the rest of the season, and having Keith [Barker] back - who, as a left-armer, not only swings the ball but creates a bit of rough for [spinner] Jeetan Patel - will be great."

Warwickshire will be aiming to reach Finals Day of the Friends Life t20 for the first time since 2003 this term, and begin their assault on Wednesday with a Midlands/West/Wales group clash at the Welsh Dragons.

Troughton says his side would relish featuring in the showpiece event on their home turf of Edgbaston in August, but insisted that the Bears are also focussed on rectifying their four-day woes.

"[The Friends Life t20] is a competition that we have played well in but don't get over the line and get to finals day, so we want to do that as we should have a nice home crowd at Edgbaston," added the 34-year-old, who appeared in six ODIs for England in 2003.

"But we want to improve our four-day form, too, and the way the points system is you can be catapulted up the table, so we are not looking at just surviving [relegation from Division One]."
