Shane Watson: No second Test comeback for all-rounder

Australia have named an unchanged team for the second Test against South Africa at the Adelaide Oval which starts on Thursday.

All-rounder Shane Watson had been hoping to return to the side but has failed to prove his fitness after missing the drawn first Test in Brisbane with a calf injury.

Left-handed batsman Rob Quiney replaced Watson at the Gabba and keeps his place at No 3 despite making only nine in his single innings on debut.

Paceman Ben Hilfenhaus has also retained his position in the team with left-arm seamer Mitchell Starc again handed the 12th man spot he had in Brisbane.

"At this stage we think Shane is a couple of days short of his best," said Australia captain Michael Clarke.

"Our job is to get him fully right and we've now got eight days until the third Test in Perth."

Team: Clarke, Warner, Cowan, Quiney, Ponting, Hussey, Wade, Siddle, Hilfenhaus, Pattinson, Lyon.
