Zlatan Ibrahimovic says Steven Gerrard needs to test himself abroad

Sweden captain Zlatan Ibrahimovic has cranked up the heat ahead of Wednesday's friendly against England by suggesting Steven Gerrard should quit Liverpool.

Gerrard will win his 100th England cap when he leads out the side in a match to mark the opening of the Friends Arena in Stockholm.

Paris St Germain striker Ibrahimovic says he is a big admirer of Gerrard but believes he should leave Anfield, where he has spent more than a decade, and move to a "big international club".

"Steven Gerrard is respected throughout Europe and is always the player the coach says to be careful with because he is the one that makes the difference," said Ibrahimovic, who has had spells at Ajax, Juventus, Inter, Barcelona and AC Milan.

"But, although of course Liverpool is a big club, I would like to see Steven at a big international club.

"I would like to see that also for England because it is very exciting when someone goes abroad and shows who he is in another competition.

"For me, a fantastic player can make the difference in every country wherever he plays. I'm pretty sure Steven would do that also."
