Jonas Olsson: Ended speculation over his future by signing a new four-year deal at West Brom

West Brom defender Jonas Olsson has signed a new four year contract at the Hawthorns.

Olsson's previous deal was due to expire at the end of the season and he was strongly linked with a move away from the club.

However, West Brom have been able to tie down the Sweden international to a new long-term contract.

The 29-year-old has established himself as a key member of the West Brom side since arriving from NEC Nijmegen in 2008.

West Brom boss Steve Clarke was delighted to secure the future of Olsson feeling it is a major boost for the club.

"This is great news for the club and shows we're heading in the right direction," Clarke told the club's official website.

"We've had a productive summer in terms of bringing new players in but it's equally important that you hold onto your best players, and Jonas certainly fits into that category.

"He's a tough, uncompromising central defender who knows all about the Premier League and the opponents he's up against week in, week out. Jonas is also a very important character and leader in our dressing room."
