Craig Levein is confident he still has the faith of Scotland's supporters despite the poor start to the World Cup qualifying campaign.

A 1-1 draw with Macedonia on Tuesday night left the Scots with just two points from two games following the weekend's stalemate with Serbia in the race to reach Brazil in 2014.

Levein's team were booed from the pitch for the second successive match at Hampden Park but the boss is not panicking.

Scotland trail group leaders Belgium, Croatia and Serbia by two points and Levein wants to turn focus to the next qualifying double-header in October.

Levein remains upbeat

Asked if he had the backing of the Tartan Army, Levein told Sky Sports after the draw with Macedonia: "I think so.

"I feel that this job was always going to be difficult but things are going reasonably well.

"Today was a little bit disappointing we did not pick up the (full) points. But I look at the situation in the table - three teams on four points and we are on two.

"We are one win away from going top of the group."

Next on the agenda for Scotland in October are trips to Wales and Belgium, when wins will be vital.

The matches will also take Scotland away from Hampden, where they are historically strong in qualifying.

Wait and see

But Levein said: "As I keep saying, until this qualification campaign is over, we will not know what are good points and what are bad points.

"We have to wait and see."

Levein is also confident the likes of Belgium, Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia and Wales will all drop points in the future of a tough Group A.

"I am a little bit disappointed," he said. "I was hoping to win the game.

"But I said at the start of this competition that every team will drop points and it will be extremely difficult because I think there is a not a lot between the teams.

"That showed tonight. I thought Macedonia were an extremely good team."
