The British athletes got off to a flying start on the first day of the athletics at the Olympic stadium on Friday.
British team captain, Dai Greene cruised to victory in his heat in the 400m hurdles with a time of 48.98, booking his place in the semi-finals.
The red-white-and-blue flags were out in force, with Greene expected to be a top challenger to Puerto Rico's Javier Culson, who also won his heat.
Greene was fourth fastest overall, with world number one Culson quickest in 48.33.
"It was relatively easy," Greene said. "I struggle to get up for the heats usually so I just had to make sure I qualified as winner of my heat."
European champion Rhys Williams was only fifth in Culson's race but a season's best of 49.17 comfortably saw him advance as one of the six fastest losers, while Jack Green - a training partner of Greene in Bath - went through automatically by finishing second behind former Olympic champion Felix Sanchez in the final heat.
Headwind
Meanwhile Yamile Aldama reached the women's triple jump final with her first attempt in the qualifying rounds on Friday morning.
She recorded 14.45m with her first jump into a headwind, passing the qualifying mark of 14.40m.
Aldama, who turns 40 on August 14, previously competed for her native Cuba and Sudan and revealed that her 71-year-old mother Modesta has left Cuba for the first time in her life to come and watch the Olympic final.
Aldama, who had heavy strapping on the right shoulder she injured in Rome on May 31, said: "I qualified, that's good enough. I have no words to describe the crowd. I've been to five Olympic Games and the qualifying is never like this."

Christine Ohuruogu also made it through comfortably to the 400m semi-finals, finishing second in her heat in 50.80.
The defending champion had a very strong start but eased off later on allowing the United States' Francena McCorony to win the heat.
She was joined by team-mate Shana Cox - who was third in her heat in 52.01 -before a torrential downpour hit the stadium.
The rain thankfully did not last long and Scot Lee McConnell was able to enjoy a dry run in the fifth heat of the 400m, finishing third to join Ohuruogu and Cox in the semi-finals.
