The good news for the world number one is that the PGA Championship is the major he has come closest to winning - he led after 54 holes at Medinah in 2006 before drifting backwards with a final round 74. He was also eighth in the event last year. But the bad news is that his major performances are consistently less impressive than his week in week out efforts. A fast finishing fifth in the Open offers hope. Or does it? Was it another case of playing well when the pressure was off?
