Tiger Woods: Lacked the intensity heading into the weekend

Tiger Woods admitted his mental approach cost him as he faded out of contention over the final two rounds of the USPGA Championship.

The former world number one held the joint lead at halfway but shot 74-72 over the closing rounds of a weather-effected event at Kiawah Island.

That left him 11 shots behind runaway winner Rory McIlroy leaving Woods to reflect on what might have been.

"I was right there ... but I came out with probably the wrong attitude yesterday," said the American.

"And I was too relaxed, and tried to enjoy it, and that's not how I play. I play intense and full systems go. That cost me.

"I putted really well today and had the speed good. Unfortunately, I just didn't give myself enough good looks."

Woods, a four-time winner of the tournament but not since 2007, paid tribute to McIlroy.

"He's very good," he said. "He's got all the talent in the world to do what he's doing. And this is the way that Rory can play. When he gets it going, it's pretty impressive to watch."
