Latest under our scout's gaze is Feyenoord's Stefan de Vrij

The scout reports...

Holland international Stefan de Vrij has been attracting a lot of attention, and we take a check on the Feyenoord ace.

De Vrij started played at a young age with his local youth side vv Spirit and by the time he was 10 he was already standing out. He attended a training day with Feyenoord and their scouts were suitably impressed and brought him into their academy.

He was signed as a midfielder, but he was soon converted by the coaches in Rotetrdam to a defender, able to play at right-back or centre-back.

He progressed well at Varkenoord, Feyenoord's academy, and enjoyed success with their Under-16 outfit before being called up by Holland's national coaches, making his debut for the Oranje Under-16s in 2007.

Not long after his 17th birthday, he was handed his first professional deal by Feyenoord in the summer of 2009. Later that year he made his senior debut in a cup game in December against Harkemase Boys and his league bow came just days later against FC Groningen.

Then-Feyenoord coach Mario Been was clearly impressed by the youngster, and from that moment on he became a mainstay in the squad, playing 17 games in the second half of that campaign.

De Vrij has continued to go from strength to strength and despite his tender years was named captain last summer, succeeding Ron Vlaar who was sold to Aston Villa.

2012 also saw De Vrij called up to the Holland national squad and he made the preliminary squad for the Euros, but did not make the final cut. He made his debut soon after against Belgium.

Now De Vrij is attracting attention from throughout Europe, but England is where the interest is strongest. Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has personally checked on him in recent weeks, whilst Manchester United, Everton and Newcastle are also understood to have watched him.

And it is little surprise that such a talent has eyes on him. At just 21, De Vrij is a confident and commanding figure, who lets his majestic feet do a lot of the talking.

Similar to Danny Blind of days gone by, de Vrij is more than happy to have the ball at his feet. He can carry the ball as well as most midfielders and can also pick a pass. His reading of the game is excellent, and it is clear why he was made captain at a young age.

The scout says...

De Vrij looks a star of the future and it seems he could very well be destined for England, it is just a question of where.

His talent is such that he will already cost around £10million, which some may see as a risk, but talent such as his does not come cheap.
