The scout reports...

As Nathan Redmond is quickly emerging as one of the most exciting young talents anywhere in England, we analyse why some of the Premier League giants are taking such an interest in the Birmingham City starlet. Birmingham-born Redmond was spotted by Blues scouts at the age of just eight, and he has long been heralded as one to watch. Even with many tipping him for the top, his progress has been almost as rapid as his own wing play. He was playing for Birmingham's reserves on a regular basis when just a 15-year-old schoolboy. Aged just 16 years and 56 days, he made the bench for Birmingham's final game of the 2009/10 season - but did not make an appearance. It was not until that summer that he signed his contract committing his future to St Andrews. He continued to progress and in August 2010 he became the second youngest player in the club's history when he played against Rochdale in the Carling Cup. During this time Redmond has also become a firm fixture on the international scene with England, and went to the Under-17 World Cup last summer. Birmingham were relegated from the Premier League last term, but in some ways this helped Redmond as he has now been able to establish himself in the first team - where he may not have had that opportunity in the top-flight. Redmond is now quickly gaining a reputation as a rapid winger, and comparisons to the likes of Shaun Wright-Phillips, Aaron Lennon and Theo Walcott is an easy one to make. Diminutive and fleet of foot, there is no doubting Redmond's main weapon is his blistering pace. But Redmond has a footballing brain and can pick a pass, whilst he has an eye for goal and is capable of hitting the target when required. He still has a lot of work to do on his physique, but at 17 his temperament is excellent and he does not look out of place in the first team.

The scout says...

Has come on leaps and bounds under Chris Hughton's tutelage, and it surely makes no sense for him to move from his home-town club at this moment. But money talks in football and if Redmond continues to progress, it may be hard to keep him at St Andrews beyond the summer.
