The scout reports...

A goal-scoring gem, Ransford Osei is one of the best young striking prospects to emerge from Africa in the last few years.

Osei began his career in his native Accra with Kessben, where his goalscoring ability soon came to the fore - especially with Ghana.

In 2007 he finished second in the goalscoring charts at the prestigious Fifa Under 17 World Cup. In November 2007, after scoring a hat-trick in a youth game, he was drafted into the senior Ghana squad and made his debut.

Soon after this he was handed a trial by Manchester City - who have continued to keep close tabs on him, with some reports claiming they have secured first refusal on him, although Tottenham and Manchester United are also said to be keen.

He then top-scored in the African Youth Championship in January this year and also won the Golden Shoe for best player.

Polish club Legia Warsaw struck a deal to sign him in early in 2008, but problems arose over his work-permit and Fifa refused to sanction the deal and he returned home.

Osei, though, was not back in Ghana for long as he was snapped up by Maccabi Haifa and just months after moving to Israel he has been snapped up by Steve McClaren at FC Twente - who has signed him on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

Osei has been likened to the legendary Ghanaian striker Abedi Pele - but he is a bit more direct and more of a poacher; indeed McClaren would probably more liken him to Yakubu Aiyegbeni - whom he signed during his time at Middlesbrough.

But Osei he is not just happy sitting on the six-yard box, he also has very good vision and can often be seen setting up a move with a clinical pass.

The scout says...

A natural-born striker without a doubt, and he needs show this season he can cope with pressure in Holland because if reports are accurate, he will soon be on his way to the Premier League.

While he probably needs a good two seasons with Twente, hopes are high he will produce.
