Thomas Sorensen and long-serving defender Andy Wilkinson are among those on Stoke's list of released players.
Goalkeeper Sorensen is leaving after seven years, while Wilkinson's departure ends a 15-year association with his hometown club.
Neither played a significant role for Mark Hughes' side this term, Wilkinson appearing once either side of a loan spell at Millwall and Sorensen sitting out the entire season.
Wilson Palacios, the Honduras midfielder who has commanded an estimated £20m-plus in transfer fees, has also been released after failing to feature this season.
Nine of the club's U21 squad join the three senior professionals on the free-transfer list.
Hughes has already signed a new 'keeper and defender, bringing in Sorensen's fellow Dane Jakob Haugaard and turning centre-half Philipp Wollscheid's loan into a permanent deal.
