Davis targeting a goalkeeper

If Crewe make a move before the loan window closes on Thursday, boss Steve Davis insists it will be to bring in a goalkeeper.

The Alex are fighting to stay afloat in League One and are expected to be without first-choice stopper Ben Garratt for the bulk of their final eight fixtures. Davis is still keeping his fingers crossed that Garratt could feature before the end of the campaign but is mindful that Paul Rachubka is the only other keeper on the Alex's books. That situation is something Crewe could look to remedy before the loan window closes at 5pm on Thursday. "I'm sure we will have more discussions this week and the only position we will look to do something is with the goalkeeper situation," Davis told a press conference this week. "We only have Paul at the moment and cannot run the risk of going with just him in the last eight games. "We need to have that cover there and we would look to get one who would really challenge for the number-one spot. "Of course, if we were to take one in on loan then that would take us to six and one of the players here on loan would have to drop out of the squad. "It is not an ideal situation and it is something we will discuss and try and do something about if we can."
