Gary Bowyer rages at interest shown in Blackburn striker Jordan Rhodes

Blackburn manager Gary Bowyer has blasted the Sky Bet Championship managers who publicly declared an interest in Jordan Rhodes last week.

Rumours circulated that 16-goal forward Rhodes was interesting a number of promotion contenders on a loan deal which would eventually turn into a multi-million pound permanent switch over the summer.

Bowyer always stressed that such a possibility was preposterous but Nottingham Forest manager Dougie Freedman revealed he had spoken to his Rovers counterpart about Rhodes, while both Steve McClaren and Alex Neil said he would interest Derby and Norwich respectively.

Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka refused to be drawn on their link with the Scot, though, and Bowyer complimented the Spaniard on his approach while criticising those bosses who had specifically mentioned Rhodes as a transfer target.

"One or two managers conducted their business publicly which I think is poor," said Bowyer after Rhodes scored another brace at Charlton on Saturday.

"Mr Karanka was outstanding in his press conference when he said he didn't want to talk about Jordan Rhodes. Full respect to him for that.

"One or two others have gone public which just tells you a bit about them really."
