Defender Nathan Cameron has quelled talk about his future by signing a new contract at Bury.

The 22-year-old has been one of the stand-out performers for the high-flying Shakers this season, which led to speculation he was interesting various Championship clubs. In the immediate aftermath of that story, Cameron was part of the Bury side which was stunned 5-0 at Shrewsbury on October 21. Boss David Flitcroft had suggested Cameron may have been affected by talk regarding his future, but that has been put to bed now he has put pen to paper on a new deal at the JD Stadium. Cameron, who has extended his stay with the club until 2017 after joining last summer, said: "The chairman, the manager and the players have all made me feel really welcome and comfortable here at Bury. "I really want to gain promotion with this club and this group of lads. "I've spoken with a few of the players and they've all said this is too good of a team not to be promoted. The way we are playing at home at the moment we feel we can beat anyone. "I'm excited to be a part of the club's future and just want to keep moving forward." Cameron was not guaranteed a spot in Flitcroft's XI at the start of the year, but the Bury boss has been impressed with the defender's form. "Nathan signing represents the current, the medium-term and the long-term goals of the club," he said. "He's been outstanding this season - his performances have been immaculate. "Nathan has earned this contract, it hasn't just been given to him. The way that he has transformed his game has been quite incredible. He's a fantastic individual who is fighting for the cause. "It was important that we signed Nathan up when other potential clubs were looking at him, as I believe that he is going to take the club forward and we don't want to lose our best players. We are absolutely delighted with the signing."
