Jonathan de Guzman says he turned down QPR to join Napoli, despite the Premier League club offering a better deal.

De Guzman, who spent the past two seasons on loan at Swansea, has signed a four-year contract with Serie A side Napoli after joining from Villarreal for an undisclosed fee.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp had reportedly been keen on bringing the Dutch international to Loftus Road this summer but he instead snubbed a return to England and opted for Napoli.

De Guzman told Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad: "On the table there were two offers, one from Napoli and the other from QPR.

"The English side’s one was the most important and Villarreal would have liked to sell me to the best offer.

"But I wanted Napoli and in the end my will decided the negotiation."

De Guzman featured in all seven World Cup games for the Netherlands in Brazil this summer as Louis van Gaal’s side finished the tournament in an impressive third place.

The former Feyenoord and Mallorca man had been allowed extended leave to recover from the competition and he insists he will be fit for the start of the new season.

"After the World Cup I worked with a personal trainer. Serie A will start next week and in about three or four games I’ll be at the top," he said.
