Sky sources understand Hartlepool United striker Luke James has been the subject of two bids from Peterborough United.

Peterborough are in the market for striking reinforcements having sold Britt Assombalonga to Nottingham Forest and James is thought to figure highly on their wanted list.

The 19-year-old is regarded as one of the best young players in the country having scored 16 goals for Hartlepool last season.

Hartlepool are reluctant to lose James, with the youngster establishing himself as a key member of Colin Cooper's side, and he was rewarded for his fine form by scooping the Supporters and Players’ Player of the Year last term.

James has in the past been linked with clubs such as Wolves, Brentford and Huddersfield and it remains to be seen whether Peterborough will come back in for him before the window slams shut.
