Cheltenham reward for Deaman

Cheltenham have signed defender Jack Deaman on a one-year deal following a successful trial.

The 21-year-old had a spell on loan at the club during the 2012/13 season but failed to make a first-team appearance. "Jack is here to provide stiff competition for places in defence," Robins boss Mark Yates told the club's official website. "We need a few defenders in the building and he can play in a few different positions so we're delighted to have signed him. "He is a young lad who we have known for a while when he was with Birmingham and he was perhaps a little unlucky that we didn't take him last year." Deaman began his career at Birmingham's academy in 2011 and last season spent time on loan at Torquay, where he suffered a freak injury after falling in a rabbit hole during training. He had a spell with Eastbourne Borough in the Conference Division South before taking up Cheltenham's trial offer.
