Transfer news: Lee Clark may look to make one more addition at Birmingham

Lee Clark has room for one more fresh face at Birmingham City and believes a wide man would help to complete his squad.

The Sky Bet Championship side have returned for pre-season training having carried out much of their transfer business already.

Wes Thomas, Clayton Donaldson, David Cotterill, Mark Duffy, Stephen Gleeson, Gavin Gunning, Grant Hall, Jonathan Grounds and David Edgar have all been added to the ranks at St Andrew’s.

Clark is delighted with the deals that have been done so far and is confident that Birmingham will fare considerably better in 2014/15 than they did last season – when they beat the drop on the final day with virtually the last kick of the season.

There aren’t any more imminent, but we have probably got room for one more player.

He is, however, aware of the need to always be on the lookout for quality additions and feels a further injection of creative talent would not go amiss.

Clark said in the Birmingham Mail of his new-look side: “There aren’t any more imminent, but we have probably got room for one more player.

“Whether we do that quickly or just wait to see what’s happening with the big boys, and see what’s happening in terms of a loan deal, we’ll see.

“But it has to be in terms of Grant Hall (season-long loan with no recall option), or we might do a permanent deal.

“There might be a wide man, if I do it. That would give us the balance of the squad then.

“But if you include Matt Green and Jonathan Spector, who’s got a couple of extra days off because he was part of the USA’s pre-World Cup training camp, you are looking at 23 senior players there, so that’s a terrific start for the first day of pre-season. That’s quite unique.”
