Lyon playmaker Clement Grenier has denied reports suggesting he missed a training session in an effort to force through a move.

Newcastle United continue to be heavily linked with the France international amid rumours that he is growing increasingly unsettled at Stade Gerland.

Grenier has, however, taken the opportunity to curb the speculation by revealing that he is nursing a knock and has never looked to pressure his current club into sanctioning a sale.

He posted on his personal website: “I have read a lot of things about myself recently.

“Just to be clear, Lyon’s medical and technical staff have set me a specific programme so I can be back at 100 per cent.

There were talks and I had to consider a lot of things. Now my wish is to stay at Lyon and go on improving.

“That includes a period spent training indoors. That is why I have not been present at some of the training sessions.

“I have no problem with the club and have never missed a training session intentionally.

“There is no controversy and my intention is to be back on the pitch and competing as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, Maxime Gonalons is another of those to have been discussing his future at Lyon.

The holding midfielder continues to be billed as a possible summer target for Serie A side Napoli, but the 25-year-old says he has grown tired of the uncertainty and is now looking to stay put.

Gonalons said in L’Equipe: “It has lasted for one year with Napoli.

“There were talks and I had to consider a lot of things. Now my wish is to stay at Lyon and go on improving.

“I had to close the case as soon as possible. Now I am completely focused on the season at Lyon.

“Is a contract extension possible? Of course. You have to think about the future. We will probably talk with the chairman over the coming months.”
