Ben Coker has signed a new three-year deal with Southend, the League Two club have announced.

The 24-year-old defender has been a league ever-present for the Shrimpers in his first season with them, playing in all 42 of their games. Coker, who signed as a free agent last summer, had previously been with Colchester. His deal still had a year left to run, but his form this season has proved enough to see that extended early. "I've really enjoyed my time here so far and I believe this club is moving in the right direction," he told Southend's official website. "I wanted to be part of that. I've been really impressed with how the manager works, and believe he can really help me to continue developing as a player."
