Celtic manager Ronny Deila claims loan star John Guidetti has the potential to become a club 'legend'.

The Swedish striker has been at Parkhead since completing a season-long loan move in early September.

With the 22-year-old unable to force his way into the reckoning at parent club Manchester City, it was felt that another spell away from the Etihad Stadium would be of greater benefit to his development.

He has previously spent time at Burnley, Feyenoord and Stoke City, with a stint in Holland proving to be especially productive.

The same can be said for the time he has spent in Scotland, with eight goals netted in as many appearances – leading his boss to suggest that the youngster is capable of following in the footsteps of Celtic icons such as Henrik Larsson.

Deila told Sport Times: “He’s the best striker I’ve worked with.

“He’s young, he’s going to get much better and he will improve. I’m looking forward to working with John more.

“There is a long way to go for him to be like Henrik Larsson, but he’s started well.

“John is young and will develop, if he continues that way he can be a legend at Celtic. Of course he can.”

Celtic are understandably keen to explore the possibility of taking Guidetti on a permanent basis, but Deila is reluctant to be drawn on the likelihood of a deal being done – with several clubs in England also reported to be showing interest.

The Norwegian added: “The relationship has been fantastic from the first minute.

“It’s not always greener on the other side, and we need to think that something is good here. I think John is positive as well.”
