Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer hasn't ruled out Bastian Schweinsteiger joining Manchester United this summer

Bastian Schweinsteiger’s Bayern Munich future remains in doubt after sporting director Matthias Sammer admitted he could leave the club.

Sky sources revealed last week the Germany midfielder is on Manchester United’s list of summer transfer targets, but the 30-year-old has since said he is keen to win a fourth Bundesliga title in succession with Bayern.

Schweinsteiger has a year left on his Bayern contract and, having collected eight Bundesliga winners medals in 13 seasons, he is one of the top earners at the Bavarian club.

But at the unveiling of new Bayern signing Douglas Costa, who arrived from Shakhtar Donetsk for around £21m, Sammer admitted a summer move couldn’t be ruled out, admitting anything is possible.

"Basically, nothing is excluded," he said. "It's a crazy world.

"He has clearly expressed that he is an important part of the team, but let's see. We're still waiting."

Schweinsteiger told German broadcaster ARD that he will talk to Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge about his future this summer and was one of several Germany stars missing at Wednesday's first pre-season training session in Munich.

"I've still got a year on my contract, so there's no rush and the summer's only just beginning," he said last week.
