The scout reports...

We check on towering young defender John Anthony Brooks - who is one of the lynchpins behind Hertha Berlin's drive back to the Bundesliga. Born in Berlin, Brooks is the son of an American serviceman - but he is born and raised in the German capital. He has played football since a very young age and joined his first club at the age of five - Blue-White 90. Moving on to Lichtenrader BC and then the highly accalimed youth side Hertha Zehlendorf - he was picked up by Hertha's academy in 2007. He progressed well and he was picked for Hertha's second string in 2011 when he was also rewarded for his progress with a four-year contract. Just before agreeing his deal with Hertha, Brooks' performances had attracted interest from none other than Bayern Munich - but the player opted to remain with Hertha. After continuing to play for the second XI, Brooks was called into the first-team squad after their relegation last season. He started their first game of the new campaign and he has been an ever-present, shining brightly for Hertha - who currently sit four points clear at the top of the table. As well as attracting interest from other clubs, he is also at the centre of a tug-of-war internationally. He qualifies for both USA and Germany, and has featured for both teams at youth level. This summer will see him make a definitive decision, and will either play for America at the World Under-20 Championship or Germany at the European U21 Championship. And it is safe to say when you have Germany battling for you, then you have something a little special. Standing at 6ft 4in, Brooks is an imposing player - but he is no bruising cente-half. Elegant, with a good footballing brain - the fact he has not even been booked for Hertha this season tells its own story about his game. Clearly good in the air, Brooks is a confident performer and at 20 looks a hugely impressive figure.

The scout says...

Full of potential and he looks set for a full season in the Bundesliga next season as he will surely stay with Hertha for another season. If Brooks continues to progress and impress as he has done, then which club in Europe would not want a classy, imposing and quick centre-half?
