Latest under our scout's gaze is Barcelona's Isaac Cuenca - recommended by Sky Sports reader Daniel Teo.

The scout reports...

This week Barcelona starlet Isaac Cuenca is under the microscope, and his story so far is certainly an intriguing one.

Cuenca is a 20-year-old winger who has burst onto the first-team scene this term, making his La Liga and Champions League debut.

The youngster is another product of Barca's famed academy La Masia. After training with Espanyol before even becoming a teenager, Cuenca joined La Masia aged just 12.

But in his third year, having failed to settle in the Catalan capital, he returned home, joining local side Reus Deportiu.

After two years back home, Barcelona - who had continued to monitor him - persuaded him to return to La Masia. This time Cuenca settled and was soon accelerating through the system.

Then, rather than spending the next season with Barcelona B, he was loaned to Catalan outfit Sabadell and he shone, featuring in over 30 games and helped them claim promotion to the Segunda Liga after an 18-year absence.

Cuenca returned to Barcelona this summer and impressed manager Pep Guardiola during pre-season with the first team, but a debut for the senior side was still looking a long way off.

Indeed, Cuenca was only given his Barcelona B debut in September. But just six weeks later, with injuries to Alexis Sanchez, Pedro and Ibrahim Afellay, Guardiola came calling. He made his senior debut replacing David Villa in the Champions League against Viktoria Plzen.

He has since started in three league games and scored his first goal for the club against Mallorca. Now just 18 months on from playing in the third tier of Spanish football he is rubbing shoulders with the likes of Messi, Xavi and Iniesta.

But is Cuenca worthy? Clearly he is not the finished article, but there is something special about him, as Guardiola himself recently admitted.

Relatively tall for a winger, standing at just under 6ft, Cuenca could easily be likened to somebody like Angel Di Maria in terms of build, and his play is not too dissimilar from the Real Madrid star.

Cuenca's main threat is his willingness and love of running at the opposing defence, his close control is excellent and he seems to pose a genuine threat whenever he picks up the ball.

Cuenca has come in under the radar somewhat, but is suddenly emerging as one of Barca's real hopes for the future.

A terrific talent, and it is not beyond the realms of fantasy that he could soon be making his Spain debut.
