Andy Murray: Beat Spain's Tommy Robredo at the Hurlingham Club
Andy Murray's Wimbledon preparations received a boost with a comfortable straight-sets victory over Tommy Robredo at the Hurlingham Club.
The reigning Wimbledon champion shrugged off his third-round Queen's Club exit by dispatching world No 22 Robredo 6-2 7-6 (7-1) in the BNP Paribas Tennis Classic exhibition event.
Murray started life under new coach Amelie Mauresmo by relinquishing his Aegon Championships title when falling to Radek Stepanek in the third round at Queen's Club.
The 27-year-old had few problems in accounting for Robredo on Thursday though, the Spaniard seeded 23rd for Wimbledon.
Murray's grass-court exploits leave him seeded third for his SW19 title defence, behind Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
The two-time grand slam winner forced an immediate break of Robredo's serve, backing up his fast start to claim the first set 6-2 with relative ease.
Robredo converted his first break point of the match in the third game of the second set, as Murray's powers of accuracy waned slightly.
The affronted Scot forced an immediate break back however, to level at 2-2.
Robredo's marked improvement deprived Murray of that first-set dominance, and the Spaniard broke again in the ninth game to lead 5-4.
Robredo served for the set, only for Murray to break back once again, fending off three set points in the process.
Murray totally dominated the tie-break however, restoring his control to claim victory in emphatic fashion.
In other news, Spaniard Nicolas Almagro, the 25th seed, has withdrawn from next week's Wimbledon championships with a foot injury.
The 28-year-old claycourt specialist's withdrawal means Canadian Vasek Pospisil now takes a seeded spot in the draw which takes place on Friday.
He will be seeded 31, ahead of original 32nd seed Dmitry Tursunov, owing to a better grasscourt record.
Almagro has reached the Wimbledon third round on four occasions.
