Novak Djokovic reached the Wimbledon semi-finals for a sixth successive year with a 6-4 6-4 6-4 win over Marin Cilic.

The defending champion sealed an impressive victory in one hour and 49 minutes to book a semi-final date on Friday with Richard Gasquet, the surprise conqueror of No 4 seed Stan Wawrinka.

The No 1 seed Djokovic had never lost to the Croat in 12 previous matches and that record never looked in serious danger as the US Open champion failed to match the Serb's precise groundstrokes and aggressive shot-making.

"It was a very solid performance after a tough five-set match against Kevin (Anderson) in the fourth round," Djokovic said.

"The top players are expected to reach the final stages of these competitions, but still I'm happy to make my way through. Of course I try not to take it for granted."

The holder was reaching his 27th Grand Slam semi-final and his 50th win at Wimbledon - only the seventh man to reach that number of victories - and will have been relieved to have come through with the minimum of fuss.

The Serb had to come from two sets down in the last 16 against South African Kevin Anderson but his crisp passing shots ensured big-serving ninth seed Cilic never got a look in.
