Wimbledon officials may be forced to close the Centre Court roof on Friday evening with heavy storms predicted to hit the south east of England.

The Met Office has issued a 'severe weather warning' which could also affect the tens of thousands of fans already gathered at Silverstone for this weekend's British Grand Prix.

Isolated heavy, and possibly severe, thunderstorms are expected in Greater London and the South East between 7pm and midnight, while Northamptonshire is also predicted thunderstorms in the early hours of Saturday.

Although no race action is scheduled for Silverstone during the forecast storms, fans camping out in the makeshift tented village will be exposed to the elements.
