John Isner: Made it through to second round of US Open behind huge serve
Home favourite John Isner eased into the second round of the US Open with a 7-6 6-2 7-6 victory over compatriot Marcos Giron.
The American No 1 was, as usual, untouchable on serve, sending down 26 aces and not facing a single break point.
He also came up with the goods when they were called for in the first- and third-set tie-breaks and eventually completed the win in exactly two hours.
No 10 seed Kei Nishikori was similarly untroubled as he progressed to round two with a 6-2 6-4 6-2 victory over Wayne Odesnik.
There were also straight-sets wins for 12th seed Richard Gasquet and 15th seed Fabio Fognini on Tuesday, the duo getting past Denis Istomin and Andrey Golubev respectively.
Gasquet's 7-5 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 win over Istomin ended when the Uzbek smashed a ball into the crowd and was given a point penalty when he was three match points down.
Fourth seed David Ferrer was stretched to four sets but did eventually come through too clinch a 6-1 6-2 2-6 6-2 win against Damir Dzumhur.
