Juan Martin del Potro: The Argentine is finally back to full fitness

Juan Martin del Potro is hungry to reach the next level as he targets his second US Open title at Flushing Meadows.

The towering Argentine, who defeated Roger Federer in the 2009 final, is finally back to full fitness and steadily climbing up the rankings.

"I know the way to beat the top guys, but it's not easy. I believe in my game, but sometimes it's not enough."

After losing to world No 1 Novak Djokovic in the longest semi-final in Wimbledon history, the 24-year-old claimed his 15th ATP crown earlier this month at Washington - his third career title in the US capital.

Although de Potro feels his getting closer to the so-called 'big four' of Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, defending champion Andy Murray and Federer, he admits feeling deflated whenever he loses to any of them.

"The top four have a big difference to the rest of the players," Del Potro said.

"I have to do well in the big tournaments to get close, but that's not easy. They are much better than the rest.

"I know the way to beat the top guys, but it's not easy. I believe in my game, but sometimes it's not enough."

Del Potro opens his campaign in New York against Spain's 74th-ranked Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.
