Angelique Kerber: Has twice reached a grand slam semi-final
Kerber is a solid operator and two-time grand slam semi-finalist but her strong run of form has cooled slightly.
The German, who turned professional in 2003, has a well-rounded game with no glaring weaknesses. She operates mainly from the baseline and is among the best returners of serve in the women's draw.
She broke into the elite at the 2011 US Open by reaching the semi-final, where she went down in three sets to eventual champion Samantha Stosur.
That run triggered a breakthrough campaign in 2012 which saw her rise into the top 10 and equal her best result at a major, losing in the last four of Wimbledon to Agnieszka Radwanska.
Since then she has failed to progress past the fourth round of any of the grand slams, although she did win the Generali Ladies Linz in October last year, her first title for 18 months.
