Tommy Haas: Played some of the best tennis of his life last year
Three-time semi-finalist Haas is still going strong on the ATP Tour despite nearing the end of his 36th year.
The German veteran enjoyed a notable resurgence in 2013, winning the BMW Open on home soil and the Erste Bank Open in neighboring Austria.
Perhaps more impressively, Haas also reached the semi-finals of the Masters 1000 event in Miami before, at the French Open, he become the oldest man to reach the quarter-finals of a grand slam in eight years.
He was one step behind that at Wimbledon, making it to the fourth round before going down in three sets to Novak Djokovic, while he only made the last 32 at Flushing Meadows.
Haas has a solid all-around game which makes him a threat on all surfaces and owns a good record in Melbourne, having made it to the last four as far back as 1999.
