Flavia Pennetta: Was a big winner in Indian Wells earlier this year

Pennetta has gone off the boil slightly after enjoying a strong start to the season but did reach the semi-finals at the US Open last year.

The 32-year-old has been a solid performer on the WTA Tour for over a decade but her run at Flushing Meadows in 2013, which ended in defeat to Victoria Azarenka, was a surprise.

She followed that up by reaching the last eight at the Australian Open at the start of this year, where she was beaten by eventual champion Li Na.

She then recorded arguably the most impressive result of her whole career in March when she saw off Li and Agnieszka Radwanska to win the prestigious BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

However, her second-round exit at the French Open was a disappointment and the poor form continued through Wimbledon and into the North American hard-court season.
