Serb sets up last eight clash against Ferrer

Janko Tipsarevic reached his second successive quarter-final at Flushing Meadows thanks to a straight sets victory against Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber. The Serb successfully wore down his big serving opponent to win their rain-delayed fourth round clash 6-3 7-6 6-2 at the US Open. Kohlschreiber blasted 12 aces during the two and a half hour clash that began on Tuesday but was suspended for a day because of rain.

Tipsarevic, who led 5-2 in the first set overnight before his fourth-round match fell victim to the heavy New York rain, kept his cool in the tricky, windy conditions. He eventually overcame his weary opponent, whose previous match against John Isner ended at a record-equalling late finish of 2:26am on Monday morning, committing 53 unforced errors. The eighth seed, is now through to the quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows for the second consecutive year but has never made a semi-final at any grand slam. A knee injury forced him to retire in the fourth set against compatriot and eventual champion Novak Djokovic last year, but he will be determined to come through this time around. His next opponent is Spanish fourth seed David Ferrer, who beat the foul weather to win his fourth round match on Tuesday and get a day off.
