Mona Barthel: Defeated the top seed in just 59 minutes
Mona Barthel completed her quite remarkable run at the WTA Hobart International by defeating top seed Yanina Wickmayer in the final.
The German, who had to qualify to make the main draw, claimed her maiden title with a 6-1 6-2 triumph after a mere 59 minutes on court.
The 21-year-old had already seen off second seed Anabel Medina Garrigues, fourth seed Angelique Kerber and Australian Jarmila Gajdosova, the fifth seed, on her way to reaching the final.
Wickmayer, ranked just inside the top 30 in the world, was never in the game after slipping 4-0 behind in the opening set.
"I'm really surprised right now, I played a really good match," she said afterwards.
"I'm happy I won the tournament. I had a great week here, it could not have been better and we will see how the future will go."
