Roger Federer will be the star name in action on day one of the French Open at Roland Garros on Sunday.

The second seed and 17-time Grand Slam champion will open his campaign against qualifier Alejandro Falla in the second match on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Falla famously pushed 2009 Roland Garros winner Federer all the way in the first round of Wimbledon in 2010 but that five-set loss is one of seven defeats in seven matches for the Colombian against the Swiss.

Last year's runner-up Simona Halep will open proceedings at 10:00am on the main court when she takes on Evgeniya Rodina.

French seeds Caroline Garcia and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga also get outings on Chatrier.

Kei Nishikori and Stan Wawrinka both play on Court Suzanne Lenglen, as do former champion Ana Ivanovic and women's ninth seed Ekaterina Makarova.

None of the five British participants will play on Sunday.

More from French Open 2015

The French Open is the only Grand Slam tournament to start on a Sunday. It means the first round is played over three days with Andy Murray possibly having to wait until Tuesday for his clash with a lucky loser from qualifying, Facundo Arguello.

Aljaz Bedene and Kyle Edmund will also represent GB in the men's singles, with Heather Watson and Johanna Konta flying the Union flag in the women's draw.
