Wimbledon chief executive Richard Lewis says extra 'visible security changes' were already in place for the Championships prior to last week's events in Tunisia.

At least 38 people, the vast majority Britons, were killed in a gun attack in the Tunisian holiday resort of Sousse last Friday.

Speaking on day one of the tournament, Lewis told Sky Sports News HQ: "It's very sad to be talking about these sorts of things but highly necessary. With the security briefing we’ve been given, we know the threat level nationally is severe

“I can’t go into details but there were obviously terrible, terrible, tragic events abroad. It’s a terrible thing to say but unfortunately it’s no surprise.

“There’s no specific threat against sporting events and no specific threat against Wimbledon but there will be some visible changes which were already planned before recent events.

“They’re more outside the ground, particularly with regards to the police wearing their flak jackets and having tasers available.”
