Roger Federer has history at Wimbledon and he has current form which makes him a genuine threat ahead of this year's tournament, says Barry Cowan.
The world No 2 and 17-time Grand Slam champion heads to the All England Club in fine fettle having secured his eighth Halle title at the age of 33.
Federer, bidding for an eighth Wimbledon title after losing in the final to Novak Djokovic last year, is without a major honour in three years, but he appears to be peaking just in time.
The Swiss star will start his quest against Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia-Herzegovina and could face Czech Tomas Berdych in the quarter-finals before a potential semi-final against 2013 champion Andy Murray.
Cowan insists Federer, who is 34-6 in 2015, knows what it takes to go all the way on his favourite surface.
"I think Federer has definitely got a chance," said the Sky Sports tennis expert. "You cannot discount anyone who is number two in the world and has won as many titles as he has done.
"Not only has he got history at Wimbledon, he's also got current form because the last 12 months, on points, he's currently the second best player.
"In reality, if you look at the way the last month or so has gone I would put him down as third favourite behind Djokovic and Murray, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me to see Federer win it.
"He was very close last year and we will continue to see Roger play more attacking tennis on the grass, coming forward on the grass, like he did in that final against Djokovic and Roger is certainly high up there as a potential winner."
