Greg Rusedski says Andy Murray is in with a good chance of winning Wimbledon this year, especially if he and Novak Djokovic are kept apart in the draw

Greg Rusedski believes Andy Murray has gone from ‘strength to strength’ and can collect his second Wimbledon title this year.

The 2013 champion heads into next week’s tournament on a high after taking a record-equalling fourth trophy in the AEGON Championships at Queen’s Club.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic will be favoured to retain his crown at the All England Club, but Rusedski insists an in-form Murray could finally inflict defeat on the World No 1.

I think for Murray, if he can meet Djokovic in the final, then we possibly could have a Wimbledon champion again.

“I still think he’s the second favourite for the title - it’s going to be very interesting,” Rusedski told Sky Sports.

“Novak Djokovic is obviously the defending champion, but it leaves him in great shape. I think he played great here. He’s won it for the fourth time. He wins it in 2009, 2011, 2013 and now 2015.

“I think since he’s got married, since he started with Jonas Bjorkman and Amelie Mauresmo, everything has gone from strength-to-strength.”

Rusedski, a Wimbledon quarter-finalist in 1997, hopes that a favourable draw will keep Djokovic in the opposite side from Murray until the final.

But he feels that Murray will relish another meeting with his Serbian rival after closely contested matches in recent months.

“What I think is going to be important is the seeding,” said Rusedski. “Are they going to move Federer around to possibly three? Is Murray going to be two? I think for Murray, if he can meet Djokovic in the final, then we possibly could have a Wimbledon champion again.

“He’s lost the last eight times to Novak. He lost to him in five sets, obviously at the French Open in the semis. He lost to him in the finals of the Australian Open in four sets, so every time he plays him – he’s getting closer and closer and I think Andy’s best surface is probably the grass.”
