Heather Watson is a set down to Angelique Kerber in a rain-interrupted Miami encounter

British number one Heather Watson will have to come from a set down if she is to beat 13th-seed Angelique Kerber in their Miami Open second round encounter.

The clash was halted on Friday night due to rain and high winds, and will resume today at around midday local time, weather permitting.

The 22-year-old Watson will be disappointed to have let the first set slip away, having led 5-3, only for her German opponent to reel off four games in a row, saving a pair of set points in the process.

The match was delayed when Kerber had two set points of her own and, although the players were able to return briefly so she could close out the set, the rain soon returned and play was abandoned for the day.
