Murray hopes to win his third Miami Open while Djokovic looks to make it four in five years

Andy Murray will head to the Miami Open this week looking to continue his improvement as the tennis season heats up in sunny Florida.

The British No 1 will be aiming for a hat-trick of titles at the event having claimed wins in 2009 and 2013 as he targets a 10th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title.

He produced a fine run to a first Masters 1000 semi-final in two years which came to an end against old foe Novak Djokovic at Indian Wells last week.

The world No 1, who also defeated the Scot in the final of the Australian Open, extended his head-to-head advantage between the pair to 17-8 with a sixth successive win.

With Roger Federer opting to skip the tournament this year, the door has been left wide open for another Murray-Djokovic blockbuster.

However, Murray may find his run slightly tougher in the same half of the draw as world No 3 Rafael Nadal.

Murray will open his campaign against Donald Young, the American who he recently beat in four sets during Great Britain's Davis Cup win.

Young made it into the second round when his opponent Yen-Hsun Lu, of Chinese Taipei, had to retire from their match with a shoulder injury. He was 5-1 ahead in the opening set before Lu pulled out after receiving treatment on court.

Big-serving South African Kevin Anderson is seeded to meet Murray in the last 16 with former Melbourne champion Stan Wawrinka potentially lying in wait in the quarter-finals.

On the other side of the draw, Djokovic has been placed in the same quarter as David Ferrer and is seeded to meet Kei Nishikori in the last four.

Nishikori is the fourth seed in the absence of Federer and the US Open runner-up could first have to face last week's Indian Wells semi-finalist Milos Raonic.

The Japanese star holds a strong record against the Canadian, his latest win coming in the Davis Cup earlier this month.

The tournament will also see a welcome return to action of former Flushing Meadows winner Juan Martin Del Potro, although the mighty Argentine faces a tough opener against talented Canadian Vasek Pospisil.

In the women's draw, Briton Heather Watson opens against a qualifier and could face 13th seed Angelique Kerber in round two.

Should she get to the last 16, as she did in Indian Wells, Watson could meet top seed Serena Williams.

Williams, who was forced to retire before her semi-final against eventual champion Simona Halep with a knee injury, is seeded to meet the Romanian in the semis.

The other side of the draw will see Maria Sharapova and Caroline Wozniacki face off, if the seedings play out.

The women's main draw gets under way on Tuesday with the men's starting on Wednesday.
