Britain's Dominic Inglot and Romanian partner Florin Mergea were unable to build on their victory over top seeds Bob and Mike Bryan as they bowed out of the men's doubles at the Australian Open.
Inglot and Mergea defeated the six-time champion Bryan twins in straight sets in the third round, but were beaten 6-4 7-6 (7/3) by Holland's Jean-Julien Rojer and Mergea's compatriot Horia Tecau in Wednesday's quarter-finals.
A single break of serve was enough to give Rojer and Tecau the opening set and the sixth seeds saved a break point in the fourth game of the second set before winning it 7-3 in a tie-break.
There was better news for Britain in the girls' singles as 15-year-old Katie Swan knocked out top-seed Shilin Xu of China 6-2 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals.
Swan, who was born in Bristol but is now based in Kansas in the United States, will face American 11th-seed Raveena Kingsley in the last eight.
"I had a pretty clear strategy what I wanted to do and thankfully it worked pretty well," Swan said. "I served pretty well - I didn't have as high as percentage as I would like but I was still hitting my targets on my second serve, which I was really pleased about.
"I'm just going to take it one match at a time. It seems to be working so far. I had a lot of match practice last week and I've been focused on this tournament for a while. I'm feeling really good with my game and that's been showing on the courts so far.
"My dream is to be number one in the world, just as I'm sure everyone's is at my age in this tournament. But I'll take everything one step at a time and see what happens."
