David Goffin edged a third-set decider with Maximo Gonzalez to set up a meeting with Dominic Thiem in the final of the Bet-at-home Cup Kitzbuhel.

Both Goffin, a 5-7 6-4 6-3 winner, and Thiem, who defeated Juan Monaco 6-3 6-1, will be aiming to win the first ATP title of their career.

Goffin battled away for two hours and 22 minutes before finally ending the challenge of Gonzalez to extend a recent run of form which has already given him three titles on the Challenger circuit.

"I didn't expect to be in the final this week, 19 victories in a row is unbelievable," the Belgian told the ATP Tour’s official website.

"After the third Challenger in Tampere, I was a little bit tired, but I played with confidence. I came here, not knowing how I would be physically. But this week, I have played well. I am relaxed and have developed my confidence."

Austrian youngster Thiem, who beat Stanislas Wawrinka at the Madrid Masters earlier this year, will be hoping to further enhance his reputation a player to watch in the future.

He is also bidding to become the first home player to win in Kitzbuhel since Thomas Muster 21 years ago.

Earlier on Friday fifth seed Thiem had beaten defending champion Marcel Granollers 6-4 7-5 in a quarter-final which was behind schedule due to rain on previous days.
