Simona Halep continued her progress in the Bucharest Open with a convincing second-round success on Thursday.

The top-seeded Romanian, a Wimbledon semi-finalist, defeated Alexsandra Krunic 6-2 6-4 to set up a third-round meeting against Lara Arruabarrena.

Thursday's other second-round matches were more keenly contested affairs which went to three sets.

Danka Kovinic defeated Karin Knapp 6-4 2-6 6-3, in a match which lasted two hours and 15 minutes, and will next play Kristina Kucova.

Petra Cetkovska's clash with Kiki Bertens went past two hours and 33 minutes before the Czech emerged a 6-4 3-6 7-6 (7/4) victor.

Cetkovska's third-round opponent will be Roberta Vinci, after the second seed came from behind to beat Silvia Soler-Espinosa 3-6 6-2 6-1.
