David Ferrer and Ernests Gulbis were both eliminated in the second round of Wimbledon after losing to Andrey Kuznetsov and Sergiy Stakhovsky respectively.
Kuznetsov prevailed 6-7 (5-7) 6-0 3-6 6-3 6-2 in a back-and-forth contest to dump seventh seed Ferrer out of the tournament.
Spanish veteran Ferrer had reached the quarter-finals in each of the last two years but will not be extending that run after dropping serve nine times against the 23-year-old Russian.
Stakhovsky upset 12th seed Ernests Gulbis in straight sets, the 28-year-old prevailed 6-4 6-3 7-6, taking the tie-break 7-5, to progress to the third round for the second year in succession.
The 90th-ranked player used the same serve-and-volley style that worked against Roger Federer in 2013 to win, while Gulbis, who reached the semi-finals at the French Open this month, double-faulted nine times.
Another seed bumped out on day three was Russian Mikhail Youzhny, as qualifier Jimmy Wang earned an impressive 7-6 (7/1) 6-2 6-7 (5/7) 6-3 triumph.
The world number 147 from Chinese Taipei had to win three preliminary matches just to reach the main draw. He will face either Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or American Sam Querrey next, with that match suspended due to fading light with the score locked at 9-9 in a deciding set.
Both men also needed two days to finish their first-round matches, after rain brought an early end to play on Monday, and will return on Thursday to try and clinch a place in the last 32.
There were no such problems for sixth seed Tomas Berdych, the 2010 finalist progresseing to round three with a 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (7-3) 6-1 victory over Bernard Tomic.
Talented Australian Tomic put the pressure on when he won the first set but his Czech opponent edged his way through two tie-breaks before dominating the fourth set. Berdych served 25 aces during the match
Kevin Anderson needed four sets to see-off the challenge of France's Edouard Roger-Vasselin. The South African 20th seed prevailed 7-6 1-6 6-3 6-4, smashing 24 aces in the victory.
Grigor Dimitrov is also through, with the 11th seeded Bulgarian taking his second match point to win 6-3 6-2 6-4 against Australia's Luke Saville in a battle of two former Wimbledon junior champions.
