Andy Murray: Preparing to return to action

Sky Bet

Wimbledon champion Andy Murray will face the dangerous Nicolas Almagro in his first match in over a month, live on Sky Sports on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old Scot took several weeks off following the Davis Cup action to nurse a back injury but is ready to return at the Mutua Madrid Open in Spain, where he was granted a bye into the second round.

There, he faces the in-form Almagro, who dug deep to oust Andrey Golubev 6-3 6-7 7-6 in two hours and 31 minutes in an entertaining first-round clash.

The 2010 semi-finalist passed up no fewer than 10 match points before eventually edging out the Kazakh qualifier via a final-set tie-break.

Problems

But Almagro's solid forehand and elegant one-handed backhand may well cause problems for Murray on the clay of Madrid - a surface on which the pair have met twice with a victory apiece.

Murray's preparations for the clash have been intensified by speculation over his coaching vacancy.

The 2012 US Open champion revealed he is considering hiring seven-time Grand Slam winner John McEnroe, saying over the weekend: "I speak to him (McEnroe) a lot around tournaments.

"I have always got on well with him and he has always said nice things to me and about me. He obviously has a lot to offer. It is interesting - whether anything comes from it, who knows?"
