Top seed Tomas Berdych cruised into the final of the Portugal Open and will face Argentina's Carlos Berlocq for the title in Lisbon on Sunday.

The Czech is playing the tournament for only the second time in his career, having gone out in the first round as a teenager back in 2005.

However, this time he will have high hopes of walking away with the trophy after sweeping aside the challenge of Victor Hanescu in the semi-finals.

The world No.6 needed just 72 minutes to complete a comprehensive 6-2 6-2 victory over the Romanian, breaking his opponent four times without reply and sending down five aces.

"The first step is there, I'm in the final," said Berdych afterwards. "Now it would be really great to win this title.

"It's always a pleasure to be competing at the end of a week. Every final counts and I'm really looking forward to this one.

"I finally found the way I want to play, this is how I want to prepare on the clay. That's why I'm here. I want to improve my clay game this week and I'm managing to put my game together."

Berdych will be bidding for his second win of the season having triumphed in Rotterdam back in February, but standing in his way on Sunday will be Berlocq who overcame Spanish qualifier Daniel Gimeno-Traver 7-6 (8/6) 6-2.

The Argentine was pushed all the way in a hard-fought first set but, having come through a tense tie-break, was always in control in the second after securing an early break.
